I wrote, designed, edited and directed this film in the absence of Duran Duran while they were on tour in South America. I asked Gilly Taylor to shoot it, who had shot Roman Polanski’s stunning black and white films of the sixties, such as ‘Repulsion’ and ‘Cul De Sac’. It was my intention to colorize segments of the film, but Gilly's was so beautiful that Nick Rhodes decided to let it stand on its own merits. Part of a compilation called ‘Girls on Film’, the Chauffeur is unlike the other films and has gained a cult status in it's own right.
The semi-naked dancer in the final sequence was Iggy Pop’s girlfriend at the time. The legs stepping out of the Vandem Plas Limousine are mine.
