How To Be Cool

1988

This innovative and outrageous series was pushing the boat out for Granada, and not aired again after it’s first showing, despite huge ratings. Written by Phillip Pullman, ( Dark Materials ), it tells of a secret government  organisation called the Cool Board, who in a Big Brother way control fashion. Roger Daltrey starred magnificently as head of the board Mr Cashman, (who claims to have invented Punk) and Perry Fenwick as his Clockwork Orange-style bully boy.  An inspiration for me was the original cult TV series The Prisoner.
