Tubular Bells

1976

Mike Oldfield asked me to produce films that could run and run, and I offered him the concept of adapting the drawings of Escher, with whom I have always been preoccupied. I found a way, with only twenty-four drawings per film, to create cycles of motion that could continue forever, while at the same time breaking the reality of three dimensions. This series of ‘impossible cycles’ led to an invitation to collaborate with the Ferranti Brain Science Institute.
